The Growing Authenticity Gap

I surmised at one point earlier this year the Mitt Romney couldn't break through because something about him just did not ring authentic with Republicans. John McCain, for all his flaws, is very authentic.

And, I think that's going to play true in the general election also. We all know the problems that Hillary has with authenticity--the Bosnia delusion just the latest example. But the more we see of Obama and Wright and Rezko and the Mrs., the more Obama starts to ring a little false.

All things being equal, undecideds tend to value authenticity, which is why Bush beat Gore and then Kerry.

Maybe there's a little hope for the White House in the fall, after all.
