My personal musings about anything that gets on my radar screen--heavily dominated by politics.

A word on the Dean Effect.

News broke yesterday that John Kerry had loaned his campaign $850 thousand, and was looking to loan more pending a mortgage on his home. This, from the OTHER candidate who foreswore public monies for his campaign.

I suspect he had no idea when he followed Howard Dean into the realm of self-supported campaigns that his fundraising would dry up so dramatically, or that the momentum of the Dean campaign would be so great that it force him to spend so much, so early. My bet is that he thought the only way to continue to look like a legitimate contender was to follow Howard Dean.

How many other decisions are the nine dwarves making based on the Dean Effect? That remains to be seen. But this one, at least , looks like a monumentally foolish one.
