My personal musings about anything that gets on my radar screen--heavily dominated by politics.

| Too Little, Too Late
From the department of more post-mortems on the election, today's News has this analysis of spending patterns for the last election on a statewide basis: A Rocky Mountain News review of state and federal campaign filings found that: • Money raised by outside groups totalled about $7.1 million during this year's elections for state House and Senate seats. • Groups financed by Democrats, mainly four wealthy entrepreneurs, raised close to $4 million. However, Republican Party-oriented committees made a last-minute rush to close the gap, pouring $1.8 million into state legislative campaigns during the last two weeks of the election season, bringing their total to about $2.9 million. By the time the last two weeks rolled around, a large part of the Colorado electorate had already cast their votes. And, clearly, those resources didn't make it where it was needed--I live in a targeted district, and didn't recieve a single piece of mail in support of Jessica Corry from an outside group in the last two weeks. Just a little more evidence that we got out-maneuvered in November. But I also heard from the Governor this morning on the Mike Rosen Show (AM 850 KOA from 9am-noon) that the GOP won the aggregate popular vote for state offices by about 60,000 votes; sadly, that did not translate into district-by-district victories. Not too early to start thinking strategy for the next go-around. | |
