Diversity Blues and Powerline

Today’s Rocky Mtn News editorialized that a lack of diversity at CBS was the reason the investigation of Rathergate fell far short of its purpose. And, in the process, they quoted John Hinderaker of Powerline fame:

Diversity may be the single most commonly cited goal of American institutions these days. Nearly every organization. . . seems to list internal diversity among its leading goals. And yet as John Hinderaker polausibly arugues on powerlineblog.com in a postmortem on CBS News’ Rathergate, “If there is a single overrideng explanation for how a fake story, intended to influence a presidential election through the use of forged documents, could have been promulgated by 60 Minutes, it is the lack of diversity at CBS News”

Hinderaker means ideological diversity, of course. . . . CBS officials once promised to get to the bottom of the discredited 60 Minutes Wednesday broadcast. So long as they deny any ideological motive behind it, however, they’ve failed.

First off, good to see the News’ retains its ability to be critical of other media. Not that this is a great surprise, but with so much effort in the MSM the last two days to “move beyond” the CBS story, this is gratifying.

And secondly, great to see acknowledgement of the blogosphere in the Rocky Mountain News. Now, if only we could get the RMA to break through . . .
